Wonders never cease... Did you know that there is a rainbow of water bodies scattered about the globe?
Senegal was never at the top of my to-do list, but I'm pretty sure that I won't die happy until I float around in a pink lake.
I think this means we're due for a trip,
Sahnzy.
PINK: LAKE RETBA, SENEGAL
Lake Retba’s pink waters are caused by cyanobacteria in the water. The color is particularly visible during the dry season. The lake is also known for its high salt content, which, like that of the Dead Sea, allows people to float easily.
GREEN: LAKE NGAKORO, WAI-O-TAPU, NEW ZEALAND
This lake is coloured deep green by geothermal activity, and fills a crater from an eruption 760 years ago.
EMERALD: EMERALD LAKE, LASSEN VOLCANIC NATIONAL PARK, UNITED STATES
Minerals dissolved in the water of this lake give a very unusual color for fresh water.
RED: RIO CANO CRISTALES, COLUMBIA
Although red in this shot, this river is known as "The Most Colorful River in the World" for it's shocking display of vibrant rainbow hues. Other names include, "The River That Ran Away to Paradise" and "The River of Five Colours."
ORANGE: CHINOIKE JIGOKU, BEPPU, JAPAN
The "hells" of Beppu are nine spectacular hot springs that you don't want to step foot in, for obvious reasons. The most photographed is Chinoike Jigoku (also called "blood pond hell"), for its bright orange color.
WHITE: SHIRAIKE JIGOKU, BEPPU, JAPAN
Known as the "white pond hell," this geothermal hot spot is remarkable for the milky white tint to its water.
BLUE: LAKE LOUISE, CANADA
You'd think the brightest blue would be in French Polynesia, but this stunning shot of Lake Louise against the Rocky Mountains in Canada shows nature at its best. Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise boasts a stunning view… A great place to rest after a trip through Canada on the Rocky Mountaineer. YELLOW: YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, UNITED STATES
The minerals found in natural hot springs are notorious for creating some truly stunning shades of water. This bright yellow is just fascinating.
DEEP BLUE: CRATER LAKE, OREGON, UNITED STATES
Famous for its stunning deep blue color, this incredibly deep lake fills an approx. 2,148 foot deep caldera formed over 7500 years ago buy the collapse of the Mount Mazama volcano.
