Moonrise magic...

Sooo... we're all out of our minds excited about the DVD release of Moonrise Kingdom, right?

Jeff surprised me with it, and we've got it playing back-to-back while we snack on fresh gingerbread.  It's the perfect, PERFECT movie for a cool, grey day.  Hey, can I tell you a secret?  I was SO looking forward to seeing this in the theatre, and I was SO worried that our camping trip would force me to miss it.  So I made Jeff watch Elliott (on my watching Elliott day), I grabbed Evy and and we snuck away to catch this the day before we left for the wilderness.
Is that obvious?

I left Moonrise Kingdom convinced that if Sam and Suzy could brave the terrain, so could I.  All of my camping apprehension morphed into a mission to create my own Moonrise Kingdom moment way out in the woods.  Remember our camping video?  That song playing in it resonated through me from the theatre to the great outdoors.  It set the tone and the soundtrack for our trip and now, in my mind, it's forever fused to the memories we made there.  Thanks, Wes.

You know... Wes Anderson really is some kind of genius, and his films really are some kind of brilliant.  He's like a curator, ever so carefully building these worlds of nostalgia, drama, and fantasy- down to the most exquisite and finite details, and filling them with complex and endearing characters; and inviting us in to escape for brief increments.  He's my hero.

What's your take on his movies?  Are you a fan?  A big BIG fan?  Not a fan at all?  And what did you think of Moonrise Kingdom?

Have you seen all of the fun, goofy Moonrise Kingdom-inspired goodies on etsy?  Is it totally embarrassing that I've found these things?  Here are a few of my favorites...

"I love you, but you don't know what you're talking about" - Card

Vintage "Sunny Side Up" - Dress

REAL *gasp* Beetle - Earrings

Vintage Boy Scouts - Shirt

Cross stitch - Pattern

Pretty fun stuff.  :)

And P.S.
if you haven't seen it yet, do yourself a big favor and add it to your netflix queue STAT.

Oh my gosh, you guys- this is for real...

It's no secret that Paris left a gaping hole in my heart that can only be filled with, uhhh... more Paris.

But this is a little ridiculous.  A Czech photographer has rustled up a nice little side business on etsy (duh) selling cans of exotic air for $10 a pop.  Er... sniff.  Breath?

1. Yes, it's crazy.
2. The packaging is surprisingly brilliant.
3. Did I mention that it's crazy?

Ok, he might have sold me on the "homesickness" thing.  On a particularly bad day, I might just be inclined to crack open a can of Kauai air.  Here's hoping he never offers it, because I'm kind of serious - and Jeff might never speak to me again if I start buying canned air online.

Paris not your canned air locale of choice?  No problemo.
He's got the good stuff from New York, SingaporeRigaBerlin, and Prague.

What's your air of choice?

Color me happy...

I love the idea of fun pops of color in my hair, but I'm not 16 anymore... can I really get away with it?

For the most part, I do and wear what I want without taking others' opinions into account...  but a few months ago I witnessed something that made me think twice.  I saw a girl with the hottest hot pink hair (which I loved), and a man walking by her said: "Oh geez!  What was SHE thinking?  Someone obviously doesn't own a mirror."  I thought: Really?!  People still feel that strongly about these things?  There's still a stigma that goes along with pink hair?

So, yeah... I guess I kind of care.  I don't want people making comments like that about me behind my back.  Actually...  to be totally honest with you- I  really only care about Jeff's grandma or (worse) his dad  looking at me like I've lost my damn mind.

But that doesn't mean I can't play around with color entirely, right?
I've been really keen to experiment with dip-dyed tips.  Candied pinks, deep turquoise, cobalt blues, and vibrant purples...  I was therefore, SO thrilled to find the Lawless & Lulu shop on etsy.  I'm obsessed with the fun clip-in colors.  These amazing extensions are available in any base shade, I ordered a base slightly lighter than my own hair to look very highlighted and streaky.  The panels can be customized in varying lengths and widths, in infinite colors, and styles like ombre, dip-dye, or full-color highlights.  They can even be done in variegated and rainbow shades.  SO ideal for someone like me who wants the option to enjoy color, swap it out at will, or take it out entirely.

They're also priced really well, and I'm very happy with the quality too.  I've washed mine, styled them, and even let Evelyn borrow them (the ultimate test).  They still look great!

UPDATE: LAWLESSANDLULU is offering SLOmygosh readers FREE SHIPPING when you enter code: CORALSfriends at check-out.
AMAZING!!!

Footnote:  I'd like to thank my mother for tolerating my original hair color phase in the 90's.  And for allowing me the freedom to bounce around from pinks, to blues, to greens, to purples... while I matched my hair to my Doc Marten's.  And in case any of you ever find yourself in the following predicament; trust me when I tell you that the only thing strong enough to remove black hair dye from brand new white-washed wood trim- is platinum blonde hair dye.  Too bad we didn't have these clippies back then, right mama?
